About
Inventive and courageous programing, visual acuity and keen media-savvyness is the trademark of the Indonesian-American pianist Ferdy Talan. His sold-out Merkin Hall piano duo concert in New York involving commissioned video projections and artworks choreographed with works by contemporary composers formed an early testimony to Talan’s innovative vision for new concert experiences. His ability to move and touch audiences was recognized with major prizes including Most Imaginative Programming and a Chopin award for his performance of the Tarantella from Boston and Washington International Piano competitions, Piano Bridges in St. Petersburg, Russia, and Piano Link in Cremona, Italy.
After winning the Jakarta Piano Competition as a teenager, Talan moved to New York City where initial experiences at Manhattan School of Music and as a touring pianist with the New York Theatre Ballet deepened his desire for uncompromising musical expression, a quest leading Talan to his continuing in-depth studies with pianist and mentor Zitta Zohar.
In addition to performing, Talan passionately shares his experience in practicing and learning music through his self-produced YouTube series Joy of Practicing.
